Stories: Split Decision

Series - Stories: Like with the shorts, these are generally done by request and have some personification of the requester in the story.  Unlike shorts, these are longer (6k+ words) and generally have far more descriptive and world building elements.

Teaser: Split Decision. CelticFire vs. El Yaguareté.  Two warriors. Brutal rounds. Blood, bruises, broken pride, and enough punches to make the Gods wince. Two possible endings. One unforgettable fight. Who survives the war?

Under the scorching lights of a roaring Las Vegas arena, two warriors stood at opposite ends of the ring. Two men carrying the pride of their nations on their shoulders. Two fighters at the absolute peak of their game, hungry for glory, eager for battle, and ready for the time of their lives. Of course, there had been plenty of shit talking leading up to this moment. Threats, insults, outrageous promises of knockouts, and enough swagger to fill the entire arena. That was simply part of the spectacle. The fans demanded a show, and both men had been more than happy to deliver.

But beneath the bravado lay something far more important.

Respect.

These two warriors respected the hell out of each other. They understood the sacrifices, the discipline, the countless hours spent bleeding and sweating for the privilege of standing beneath those lights. Neither man would dare insult the other by holding back. There would be no mercy given, no quarter asked, and certainly no punches pulled.

They hadn't traveled thousands of miles to dance around each other.

They had come to fight.

And by the Gods, what a fight it promised to be.

Before the night was over, that pristine canvas would be stained with blood, soaked in sweat, and bear witness to a glorious display of violence, determination, and sheer, unrestrained exuberance. First to enter,  came The CelticFire, carrying the pride of Dublin on his broad, battle hardened shoulders. An Irish hurricane with fists of granite, a stubbornness bordering on the supernatural, and enough fire in his blood to keep the furnaces of Hell burning for centuries. His beard was thick and brown, matching the closely cropped sides of his head, while the wild hair on top burned a fiery red beneath the arena lights. He looked like a drunk on Christmas morning who had just discovered that every present beneath the tree contained whiskey and a legally sanctioned opportunity to punch someone.

Joyous. Dangerous. Absolutely delighted to be there.

His dark red trunks bore simple black trim, while his battered black gloves looked as though they had already survived several wars. There was nothing particularly elegant about CelticFire. He was a bruiser, a brawler, a man who believed that the best answer to most problems was a sufficiently powerful right hook. And tonight, he had found someone who shared that philosophy.

Second, but no less, entering from the opposite side came El Yaguareté, the Jaguar of Argentina. He moved with the controlled confidence of the predator whose name he carried. Every step was deliberate, every movement economical. His dark eyes surveyed the ring with an intensity that suggested he was already calculating where his fists would land. Born in the barrios of Buenos Aires, he had clawed his way to the top through grit, determination, and enough hard fought victories to earn his place among the world's finest. Nothing had been handed to him. Every scar told a story. Every championship had been purchased with pain. And he wore those accomplishments with pride, as he fucking should.

His muscular frame was leaner than CelticFire's, built for explosive speed and punishing precision. His dark blue trunks were equally unremarkable, his red gloves held loosely at his sides as he approached the center of the ring. Like his opponent, El Yaguareté had little interest in elaborate costumes, glittering robes, or unnecessary pomp.

They were here to beat the living shit out of each other, not win a fucking beauty contest.

A moment before hell was unchained....

The referee summoned them to the center, with two pairs of eyes locked. For one brief moment, the roaring crowd seemed to fade into the distance. CelticFire grinned, his expression somewhere between friendly amusement and outright insanity. El Yaguareté answered with a sharp, predatory smile. No hatred. No genuine animosity. Just two men who loved their sport, loved the challenge, and knew damn well that neither would be walking out of that ring looking particularly handsome.

Their gloves met with a firm, respectful tap.

Then they stepped back.

The referee raised his hand.

The crowd rose to its feet.

DING! DING! DING!

The bell rang.

They met at the center of ring like two freight trains. El Yaguareté was sure of himself. He had trained his body and mind, studied the tapes, knew the Irishman’s habits. He thought CelticFire wouldn’t land a single clean hit.

That lasted five seconds.

CelticFire didn't wait. He wouldn't. He couldn't. His hunger for battle had reached a fever pitch. Like a starving wolf finally unleashed upon its prey, the Irishman lunged forward with reckless enthusiasm, abandoning subtlety in favor of sheer, overwhelming violence. His opening left hook came crashing in like a wrecking ball, a thunderous blow that might have knocked down a brick wall. It connected squarely with El Yaguareté's jaw, snapping the Argentine's head sideways as effortlessly as a hot knife slicing through butter. CelticFire smiled, he was only getting started. A hook from the left. Another from the right. Heavy leather slammed against flesh as the Irishman pressed his assault, giving his opponent neither the time nor the space to recover. Then came a devastating right to the body, a sledgehammer of a punch that buried itself deep beneath El Yaguareté's ribs.

The Argentine's entire midsection buckled around the impact.

A violent shudder tore through his abdominal muscles, the force sending a sickening wave of pain rolling through his torso. His stomach lurched, threatening to surrender its contents right there on the canvas. For one terrible instant, his lungs seemed to forget how to function. CelticFire grinned around his mouth guard. He could practically smell the victory. The Irishman's fists were moving like demons from hell now, his powerful shoulders rolling with every punch. Another hook hammered into the Jaguar's side, followed by a sharp jab that snapped his head backward. CelticFire was fighting like a man possessed, determined to burn his opponent alive in the opening moments of the match.

But El Yaguareté, no, he was no helpless prey.

He was young, hungry, and possessed of a fighting spirit every bit as ferocious as the man trying to knock his head into the cheap seats... and he was getting rather fucking tired of being punched. His eyes  narrowed. The Jaguar had claws of his own. As CelticFire unleashed another monstrous right hook, El Yaguareté ducked beneath it. The Irishman's glove tore through empty air, carrying enough force to have ended the evening had it connected. For the first time, CelticFire had over committed, and the Jaguar seized his opportunity.

THUD!

El Yaguareté drove a vicious left hook into CelticFire's exposed ribs, twisting his hips and throwing every ounce of his strength behind the blow.

The impact was tremendous.

A sharp, ugly crack echoed between them as the glove drove into the Irishman's side. Beneath the skin, thick muscle rippled violently from the collision, the shock traveling across his broad torso like a stone dropped into water.

"HNGH!"

A short, involuntary grunt escaped CelticFire's clenched teeth. YES! There it was. There was the pain. The real, unmistakable pain. Celtic's ribs screamed in protest, and for a fraction of a second, his breath caught somewhere between his chest and his throat. The blow had struck hard enough to remind the battle hardened Irishman that he was made of flesh and bone, not the granite his reputation suggested.

El Yaguareté had seen the reaction, and smiled. El Yaguareté had hurt the fire. The mighty CelticFire could bleed. He could suffer. And, more importantly, he could be beaten. Unfortunately for the Jaguar, the Irishman appeared to find this revelation absolutely delightful. CelticFire snarled, his expression twisting into something between a grimace and a savage grin. His ribs throbbed, his breathing had become decidedly less comfortable, and he was fairly certain something inside his chest had just lodged a formal complaint.

Wonderful.

Rather than retreat, CelticFire planted his feet and answered with a brutal overhand right. The punch came crashing down like a falling hammer, clipping El Yaguareté across the temple with enough force to stagger the younger fighter sideways. The Jaguar stumbled, his vision momentarily swimming as the canvas seemed to shift beneath his boots. But he stayed upright. His gloves rose. CelticFire rolled his aching  shoulders. The two men locked eyes again. Both were breathing harder now. Both had felt the other's power. And both wore expressions of almost ridiculous satisfaction.

The crowd was on its feet, screaming itself hoarse.

And all of this had happened in the first thirty seconds.

Gods help them.

They were having the time of their fucking lives.

Flesh met leather. Muscle met resistance. Sweat flew beneath the unforgiving arena lights, and the limits of human endurance were tested one punch at a time. Neither man had come to disappoint. Neither man would. The opening round became a blur of swinging fists, thundering impacts, and desperate exchanges. CelticFire charged forward with his characteristic aggression, throwing heavy hooks that forced El Yaguareté to give ground. The Jaguar answered with speed, slipping punches and returning sharp combinations that repeatedly caught the Irishman off guard. Every successful blow earned a roar from the crowd. Every missed punch carried the promise of something far worse. And every time one man managed to hurt the other, the response was almost immediate. A hook to the jaw earned a jab to the nose. A vicious shot to the ribs was repaid with a thunderous punch to the stomach. CelticFire would drive forward, forcing El Yaguareté against the ropes, only for the Argentine to twist away and punish the Irishman's exposed flank.

Neither was fighting perfectly.

Far from it.

They were too enthusiastic, too eager to trade punishment, and perhaps just a little too delighted by the opportunity to test themselves against someone equally stubborn.

When the bell finally sounded, it seemed almost unreal.

DING! DING! DING!

The first round was over.

Already? Both looked absolutely confused, then angry that the bell DARED to interrupt their fun. In a almost unheard of display, the both laughed and shurged. Ah well? Returning to their corners, CelticFire lowered his gloves, and sat. His broad chest rising and falling with each breath as he took a moment to recover. A dull ache had settled beneath his ribs, and his jaw tingled where the Jaguar had caught him with a particularly nasty right cross. Across the ring, El Yaguareté rolled his shoulders, working the stiffness from his upper body. His stomach still protested the Irishman's earlier assault, and a faint redness had begun spreading across his left cheek.

Their eyes met.

CelticFire grinned.

The Jaguar laughed.

Both men sat in their corners looking as though someone had just announced that Christmas was coming twice this year.

And that was only the beginning, for the bell rang again, and the dance was rejoined.

The second round saw the violence become more deliberate.

El Yaguareté had learned an important lesson during those opening minutes: trying to overpower CelticFire was rather like attempting to stop a charging bull with harsh language. Instead, the Jaguar began using his speed. He circled, feinted, and struck in bursts, slipping beneath CelticFire's heavy punches before answering with combinations of his own. His gloves repeatedly found the Irishman's chest  and ribs, testing the powerful muscles beneath his skin. A stiff right hand caught CelticFire just below the sternum.

"HUFF!"

The Irishman exhaled sharply, his abdominal muscles tightening against the impact. Before he could answer, another punch slammed into his left side, sending a fresh stab of pain through the ribs already tender from the opening round. CelticFire stepped back, not really far, but just enough to gather himself. While he did? His expression hardened. The Jaguar had found a weakness, and he was proving considerably more interested in exploiting it than CelticFire would have preferred. When El Yaguareté stepped forward to deliver another body shot, CelticFire caught him with a short left hook that landed squarely against his cheek.

THWACK!

The Argentine's head snapped sideways.

His feet stumbled briefly out of position, and a sharp ringing filled his ears. He raised his gloves instinctively, blinking as the arena lights seemed to smear together for an instant. CelticFire followed with a right to the body.

THUD!

The punch drove into El Yaguareté's stomach, bending him forward just enough for the Irishman to land another glancing blow against his temple. The Jaguar retreated behind his guard, breathing heavily through clenched teeth. Fuck, actually no double fuck, that one had hurt. Ok, actually, both of them had. And the Irishman was already coming forward again. Fortunately, El Yaguareté had not climbed to the top of his profession by standing still and accepting punishment. He ducked, pivoted, and drove a sharp uppercut into CelticFire's chin. The Irishman's teeth snapped together around his mouthguard. For a heartbeat, his vision flashed white. Then he shook his head, planted his boots, and threw another hook. The crowd went absolutely fucking wild. By the third round, the consequences of their enthusiasm had become impossible to ignore. CelticFire's broad torso had begun to show the evidence of the Jaguar's handiwork. Angry red patches marked his ribs and abdomen, slowly deepening into bruises beneath his sweat-slick skin. His movements remained powerful, but every deep breath carried an uncomfortable reminder of the punches he had absorbed.

El Yaguareté wasn't looking much better.

His left cheek had swollen slightly, his lower lip was split, and the muscles of his stomach felt as though someone had spent the afternoon using them to test the durability of a particularly enthusiastic sledgehammer. Still, neither man appeared remotely interested in slowing down. CelticFire pressed forward with a series of heavy jabs, forcing the Argentine toward the ropes. One caught El Yaguareté across the mouth. A thin spray of blood escaped his lips. The Jaguar tasted copper. Triple fuck? He blinked, his eyes watering involuntarily, then brought his gloves higher as another punch glanced off his forehead. CelticFire stepped closer, aimed, a left hook slammed into the Argentine's ribs. The younger fighter grunted, his body twisting away from the impact. Before CelticFire could capitalize, El Yaguareté fired back with a rapid three-punch combination.

Left to the body.

Right to the chest.

Left to the jaw.

The final punch connected beautifully.

CRACK!

CelticFire's head jerked sideways. A sharp sting exploded across his lower lip, followed almost immediately by the warm, unmistakable taste of blood. He staggered half a step, his eyes widened at the same time. A swirl of emotion. Some of it definitely anger.... His eyes then narrowed. The Irishman spat a thin stream of red onto the canvas. Well... that was new. El Yaguareté grinned through his bloody mouthguard.

"Still enjoying yourself?"

CelticFire looked at him, then smiled.

"Oh, aye."

And promptly launched himself back into the fight.

By the fourth round, the match had transformed into something considerably more punishing. The early excitement had given way to the relentless reality of two exceptional fighters discovering just how much punishment their bodies could endure. Their punches still carried tremendous power, but the effort behind them was becoming more obvious. Shoulders burned. Lungs worked harder. Bruised muscles protested every sudden movement. CelticFire's jaw had begun to swell, and a small cut above his eyebrow occasionally sent sweat stinging into his eye. His ribs ached with every breath, while the muscles along his abdomen had tightened into a stubborn, painful knot. El Yaguareté's face bore its own collection of injuries. Blood stained his lower lip, one cheek had developed an ugly purple bruise, and his nose was red and tender from repeated jabs.

Neither man looked particularly handsome anymore.

And neither gave a damn.

The Jaguar stepped forward, unleashing a quick combination against CelticFire's body.

THUD! THUD!

Two punches struck the Irishman's abdomen, one just beneath the ribs, the other squarely against his already battered stomach. CelticFire's muscles contracted sharply.

"NGH!"

He bent forward a fraction, his breath catching as the second blow drove through his defenses. El Yaguareté saw the opening and immediately followed with a right hook toward the Irishman's head. But not this time, no, this time CelticFire was ready. He slipped beneath the punch and answered with a vicious left that caught the Argentine across the jaw.

CRACK!

El Yaguareté's head snapped around, sending droplets of sweat and blood scattering beneath the lights. His knees briefly softened as the crowd gasped. For one frightening second, the Jaguar looked as though he might fall. He fought, fought like hell to stay up. He planted his feet, gritted his teeth, summoned pure force of will, steadied himself, and brought his gloves back up.

CelticFire watched him recover.

A slow grin spread across the Irishman's battered face. The Jaguar returned it, revealing a mouth guard stained pink. There was no hatred between them. No desire to humiliate, no personal grievance demanding satisfaction. Just two warriors discovering that the man standing opposite them was every bit as magnificent, stubborn, and wonderfully dangerous as they had hoped. The bell, that damn bell, sounded again. It had the audacity to interrupt their fun! Rude! Both men lowered their gloves, exhausted and breathing heavily. Blood marked their faces. Bruises spread across their bodies. Every step toward their respective corners brought a fresh reminder of the punishment they had endured. The referee watched them carefully. Their trainers were considerably less amused, but what did they know right? And somewhere among the thousands of screaming spectators, people were beginning to realize they were witnessing something extraordinary.

Four rounds.

Four rounds of thunderous punches, battered bodies, bloodied smiles, and two men absolutely refusing to surrender. Already, they had hurt each other more than either would comfortably admit. Already, the fight had become a war of determination as much as skill. Yet the most remarkable thing wasn't the blood, the bruises, or even the sheer ferocity of their exchanges. It was the way both men kept smiling. Because despite everything, CelticFire and El Yaguareté were still having the time of their fucking lives.

By the fifth round, something had changed.

The smiles were disappearing.

The playful exchanges, the amused grins, the almost friendly acknowledgment of a particularly good punch? All of it was slowly being beaten out of them. Respect remained, certainly. But respect could only carry a man so far when his opponent was repeatedly attempting to rearrange his fucking skeleton. Worse for Celtic, El Yaguareté had finally found his rhythm. He moved like a predator unleashed from the jungles of his homeland, his footwork almost musical. Dance Dance Revolution, if the dance involved two hundred pounds of furious Argentine delivering leather-wrapped violence to another man's face. His combinations became faster. Sharper. Nastier.

CRACK!

A vicious uppercut snapped CelticFire's head backward, sending a thin spray of blood from his battered mouth. Before the Irishman could regain his bearings, another uppercut followed.

CRACK!

His teeth slammed against his mouth guard. His neck strained beneath the impact, and his vision flickered as the arena lights blurred overhead. El Yaguareté wasn't finished. Left hook to the ribs. Right jab to the stomach. Another hook, driven hard beneath CelticFire's elbow.

THUD! THUD! THUMP!

The Argentine's gloves battered the Irishman's powerful torso, exploiting every opening, every fraction of exposed flesh. CelticFire's abdominal muscles tightened desperately beneath the punishment, but even his considerable strength couldn't completely absorb the repeated impacts. Each punch continued to steal a little more air. Each blow continued to made the next breath harder to find. His once pale skin was rapidly becoming a battlefield of angry reds, spreading blues, and deepening purples. Bruises blossomed beneath his ribs. His abdomen had begun to swell, and every movement sent fresh reminders of the Jaguar's handiwork through his exhausted body. CelticFire gritted his teeth. Pain had become a constant companion... and he was getting thoroughly fucking sick of it.

So he answered.

THOOM!

A monstrous right hook slammed into El Yaguareté's ribs. A huge, satisfying monstrous right hook.  The Argentine's body folded sideways around the blow, his mouth opening in a strangled gasp. Before he could recover, CelticFire stepped forward and unleashed a punishing series of jabs. One struck the nose. Another split the younger man's already battered lip. A third snapped his head backward, momentarily replacing the roaring arena with a dazzling burst of white. For the briefest instant, El Yaguareté saw the face of the Gods. And judging by the expression on his own face, they were not particularly pleased to see him. CelticFire followed with a tremendous punch to the stomach.

BOOOOM!

His black glove buried itself against the Argentine's abdominal wall, driving the younger man's torso backward while his feet desperately searched for purchase. El Yaguareté doubled over, coughing around his mouthguard. What fuck was he up too? 4x? 10x? The impact had been so tremendous that somewhere, a seismologist probably glanced at the Richter scale and wondered what the fuck had just happened in Las Vegas. El Yaguareté did his best to recover as he spat blood onto the canvas. The mood shifted that much more.

The smiles were gone now. This was no longer a friendly contest between two men enjoying their sport. They were angry, they were most definitely hurting. Oh and each was becoming increasingly determined to make the other hurt worse.

Another bell, another round, another war zone.

El Yaguareté attacked CelticFire's head with terrifying precision, slipping past the Irishman's increasingly sluggish guard and hammering away at his bruised face. A left hook caught his jaw. A right cross struck his cheek. Then came the uppercut.

CRAAAACK!

The punch exploded beneath CelticFire's chin. His head whipped backward with such violence that his entire body seemed to hesitate behind it. His mouthguard nearly escaped his teeth, and a spray of blood arced through the brilliant arena lights. For one dreadful moment, the Irishman remained standing but dazzed. His eyes were open, but nobody appeared to be home. Shit. The arena tilted. The lights multiplied. One El Yaguareté became two. Two became five. Five became twenty. And not one of the bastards seemed remotely interested in leaving him alone. CelticFire attempted to raise his gloves.

Too late.

The Jaguar saw the opening. Another punch crashed against the Irishman's temple. Then another against his jaw. They just kept coming!

CRACK! CRACK!

CelticFire staggered backward, his enormous shoulders swaying as his legs struggled to remember their responsibilities. He tried to counter. His fist sailed harmlessly through empty air. El Yaguareté stepped aside and delivered one final, perfectly placed right hand. The Irishman's eyes lost their focus. His knees buckled. And two hundred pounds of battered Celtic fury collapsed onto the canvas.

DOWN!

The crowd erupted. The referee rushed forward, waving El Yaguareté toward a neutral corner.

"ONE!"

CelticFire lay on his side, blinking at the blood-speckled canvas.

"TWO!"

Somewhere beyond the ringing in his ears, he could hear the crowd screaming his name.

"THREE!"

He planted one glove against the floor, his arm trembled and didn't stop.

"FOUR!"

The Irishman dragged a knee beneath himself.

"FIVE!"

He tried to stand, failed. Tried again, failed and swore. Tried again and swore some more.

"SIX!"

His enormous frame rose unsteadily.

"SEVEN!"

CelticFire stood. His face was swollen, blood trickled from his mouth, and his eyes still seemed to be negotiating with reality. The referee examined him closely.

"Can you continue?"

CelticFire glared.

"Aye."

The referee checked that he could follow instructions, then reluctantly waved the fight on. El Yaguareté advanced. CelticFire raised his gloves. And the war resumed.

The seventh round brought a different kind of punishment.

El Yaguareté had discovered that CelticFire could withstand tremendous blows to the head. But the Irishman's body? That magnificent, battle-hardened fortress of muscle was beginning to crumble beneath the relentless bombardment... and the Jaguar intended to finish what he had started. He began attacking low. A hook beneath the ribs. A jab into the abdomen. Another hook that struck CelticFire's already bruised flank. Every punch earned a grunt, a grimace, or an increasingly desperate attempt to protect his midsection. CelticFire's breathing had become ragged. His abdominal muscles were sore and swollen, his ribs protested every movement, and even holding his guard high was becoming exhausting. It was absolute hell. Still, Celtic refused to yield. He threw a heavy right. El Yaguareté ducked. The Irishman followed with a left. The Jaguar slipped inside.

And then CelticFire made one terrible mistake.... he inhaled.

A desperate, deep breath intended to fill lungs that had been starved of air for far too long. El Yaguareté saw it. Smiled. His hips turned, and his right glove drove straight into the Irishman's exposed stomach.

THUUUUUD!

The punch landed with dreadful precision. Dreadful accuracy, and dreadful pain. CelticFire's abdominal muscles contracted around the glove, but they were already exhausted from seven rounds of punishment. The impact drove the air from his lungs in one explosive gasp.

"HUUUUURGH!"

His eyes widened, his mouth fell open. The breath he had desperately tried to draw was gone. Dead. Not coming back. He bent forward sharply, his gloves dropping toward his stomach as his body instinctively tried to protect itself. For an instant, he looked almost bewildered. Confused. Dazed again. It was as though he couldn't quite believe a single punch could hurt that fucking much. El Yaguareté stepped away, another hit wasn't necessary. CelticFire's knees shook, wobbled, then folded. He dropped to the canvas, first onto his knees, then onto his hands, his forehead hanging inches above the floor.

DOWN AGAIN!

The arena exploded.

"ONE!"

CelticFire attempted to breathe... Nothing.

"TWO!"

He opened his mouth wider, his bruised abdomen twitching painfully as his lungs struggled to recover.

"THREE!"

His hands shook against the canvas.

"FOUR!"

He coughed, finally managing a thin, miserable gasp.

"FIVE!"

Celtic clenched his teeth, no... no fuck this. He was not staying down. Not like this. This was not going to happen!

"SIX!"

One foot planted beneath him.

"SEVEN!"

He forced himself upright, one glove briefly pressed against his aching stomach.

"EIGHT!"

CelticFire straightened, just barely. His face had gone pale beneath the bruises, and his chest rose and fell in shallow, painful breaths. But a new fire burned. His eyes were focused, and focused on ONE purpose. The referee checked him again. CelticFire raised both gloves.

"Still here."

After another careful examination, the referee allowed the fight to continue. Good idea? Probably not, but this was a fight not a care bear cartoon. El Yaguareté watched from across the ring. For the first time that evening, his expression held something resembling disbelief. He had knocked the Irishman down twice. He had battered his head, punished his ribs, and practically beaten the breath out of his body. And the stubborn bastard was still standing. CelticFire looked back at him his expression darkened. It clearly said one word. Enough. Enough of being knocked around. Enough of swallowing blood. Enough of giving ground. If the Jaguar wanted a war, he was about to discover exactly what kind of monster he had awakened.

CelticFire came forward.

Not recklessly this time nor with the wild enthusiasm of the opening round. No, there was something colder in his movements now, something almost deliberate. El Yaguareté threw a jab. CelticFire slipped it. A right hook followed. The Irishman absorbed it against his guard. Then he stepped inside. And unleashed everything he had left.

THOOM!

His left glove slammed into the Jaguar's ribs. El Yaguareté grunted. CelticFire followed with a right to the chest, forcing the Argentine backward. Then came another left. And another right. Then more. The younger man's gloves rose instinctively to protect his face, which was a mistake.  CelticFire saw the opening and took it.  He twisted his powerful torso despite the screaming protests of his battered ribs, and drove a monstrous right hand straight into El Yaguareté's abdomen.

BOOOOOOM!

The glove struck with extraordinary force. The Jaguar's abdominal muscles tightened desperately, but the punch drove deep enough to fold his torso around it. His feet briefly left the canvas as the impact lifted him backward.

"GUUUUHHH!"

A strangled cry escaped his mouth. It was something normally not produced by a human. His stomach seemed to collapse inward around the blow, every carefully developed muscle suddenly feeling utterly inadequate against the Irishman's overwhelming power. Years of conditioning. Thousands of crunches. Countless hours spent strengthening his core... and CelticFire had just made every fucking one of them feel meaningless. El Yaguareté staggered backward, as his gloves dropped. His eyes bulged as he desperately searched for air. Then his legs gave way. This. Was. Happening.

DOWN!

The Jaguar crashed onto his knees before collapsing onto his side, his arms instinctively curling toward his battered stomach. CelticFire stepped away, breathing heavily through his bloody mouth. He didn't celebrate. He didn't smile. He simply watched.

"ONE!"

El Yaguareté coughed violently.

"TWO!"

A mixture of blood and saliva escaped his lips.

"THREE!"

He rolled onto his stomach, pressing one trembling glove against the canvas.

"FOUR!"

His abdomen cramped painfully as he tried to breathe.

"FIVE!"

He dragged himself onto his hands and knees.

"SIX!"

His legs trembled.

"SEVEN!"

He attempted to rise, and nearly fell.

"EIGHT!"

The Jaguar forced one foot beneath himself.

"NINE!"

He stood.

Blood stained his chin. His bruised chest heaved with desperate breaths, and his abdominal muscles shuddered beneath the punishment they had absorbed. His face twisted with pain, but his eyes remained fixed upon the CelticFire.  The referee stepped forward, examining the younger man's condition with obvious concern.

"Can you continue?"

El Yaguareté swallowed. Spat blood, then nodded.

"Sí."

The referee checked his responsiveness and balance before allowing the contest to continue. This should have been stopped several rounds ago but both men would have raised hell if it did. So, it continued. Across the ring, CelticFire slowly raised his gloves. The Jaguar did the same. Both smiled a smiled filled with pain, blood and determination. Oh sure they wanted to hurt each other. They wanted to be the last man standing. They wanted to find the precise limit of the other's endurance and then punch straight through it. But Gods damn this was still the best night of their lives!

CelticFire rolled his swollen shoulders.

El Yaguareté wiped blood from his lips.

Their eyes met.

Blessed be the war markers.

Another round, another crime scene. A brutal, sweat-soaked demonstration of precisely what happened when two exceptionally talented fighters possessed more determination than common fucking sense. Already, their bodies had endured punishment that would have sent lesser men stumbling toward the showers. Their faces were swollen, their ribs screamed with every breath, and the canvas bore the unmistakable red evidence of their enthusiasm.

And still, neither man wanted the fight to end.

Not yet.

CelticFire had El Yaguareté trapped in the corner with Celtic making absolutely certain the Argentine regretted every decision that had brought him there.

THUD!

A left hook buried itself beneath the Jaguar's ribs.

THUMP!

A right slammed into his stomach.

THUD! THUD!

Two more hooks followed, each delivered with the merciless rhythm of a blacksmith hammering iron upon an anvil. El Yaguareté's body rocked against the corner padding, the ropes shuddering with each collision. Every punch drove him backward, only for the elasticity of the ropes to push him forward into the next incoming glove. CelticFire's massive shoulders rolled. Left. Right. Left again. Right again. His black gloves battered the younger man's midsection, finding increasingly tender flesh beneath an increasingly exhausted defense. El Yaguareté had spent years strengthening those abdominal muscles. Thousands of exercises. Countless hours of conditioning. A lifetime spent building a body capable of surviving punishment most men couldn't even imagine. CelticFire was making a convincing argument that all those crunches had been a monumental waste of fucking time. Another left hook struck the ribs.

"HNGH!"

The Jaguar's elbows dropped, not even a second later, CelticFire immediately drove a right into the exposed center of his abdomen.

THOOOM!

El Yaguareté doubled forward, his forehead nearly colliding with the Irishman's shoulder. His stomach contracted violently. Pain radiated across his battered torso, and his lungs struggled to draw another breath. But CelticFire wasn't finished. He took a half-step backward, creating just enough room to swing.

CRACK!

A hook caught the Jaguar across the cheek, forcing his head snapped toward the ropes.

THUD!

Another punch returned to the body. Then another. And another. His body, his torso became the scene for the rich and beaten scentless. More body blows. More stomach punches. More demolition to the abs. Each blow demanded something his opponent had less and less of to give.

Air.

Strength.

Balance.

Endurance.

El Yaguareté's once sharply defined abdomen was now an ugly collection of spreading bruises. Angry red patches had darkened into deep purples, particularly beneath the ribs and across the lower stomach. His abdominal muscles trembled involuntarily as he tried to brace against each new impact. His glorious six pack looked less like a monument to athletic excellence and more like the aftermath of a particularly enthusiastic demolition project. CelticFire finally stepped backward, his chest heaved. Blood trickled from his split lip. The Irishman watched his opponent closely. El Yaguareté stood against the corner for one terrible second. Then another.... then his knees surrendered. He slid down the padding and dropped to the canvas, coughing hard enough to make his injured abdomen seize. A mixture of blood and saliva escaped his mouth, staining his already sweat-soaked chest.

The referee moved forward.

"ONE!"

The Jaguar planted a glove against the canvas.

"TWO!"

His arms trembled.

"THREE!"

He dragged a knee beneath himself.

"FOUR!"

His stomach cramped as he tried to straighten.

"FIVE!"

He managed a breath, it hurt like hell.

"Six!"

He pulled himself upright using the ropes.

"SEVEN!"

El Yaguareté stood. His face was swollen. His body was bruised. His breathing sounded like a battered engine struggling to turn over. But those dark eyes remained fiercely focused. The referee examined him carefully.

"Can you continue?"

El Yaguareté raised his gloves.

"Sí."

The official satisfied himself that the fighter could continue, but the bell had rung again.... and what ever came next? This round would be the last.

Their bodies had been pushed beyond exhaustion. CelticFire's once powerful movements were now stiff and labored. His ribs ached with every breath. His abdomen was swollen and bruised. Blood stained his beard, his mouth, and the front of his dark red trunks. El Yaguareté was no better. His left eye was nearly swollen shut. His lips were split. His cheeks were bruised, and his battered abdominal muscles trembled whenever he tried to draw a deep breath. The pristine fighters who had entered the ring were gone. In their place stood two exhausted, bloodied warriors who had spent the better part of an evening attempting to knock each other into next fucking Tuesday.

The canvas was marked with sweat and scattered drops of red.

The crowd was standing.

Thousands of voices roared beneath the lights.

CelticFire rose from his stool. He rolled his shoulders, wincing as the movement pulled against his bruised ribs. Across the ring, El Yaguareté stood as well. The Argentine wiped blood from his mouth with the back of his glove. Their eyes met and for a moment, the hostility faded again. CelticFire grinned through his swollen lips. El Yaguareté answered with a tired, crooked smile. There it was again. That wonderful, ridiculous joy. Beneath all the punishment, beneath the anger and exhaustion, the two men still loved every bloody second of this. But there was no mistaking what came next. There would be no gentle finish, or polite exchanges. No merciful agreement to survive the final rounds. This was it. They had come too far. They had endured too much. One of them would have to give.

This. Was. It.

The referee called them forward, watching both closely as they approached the center of the ring. CelticFire lifted his black gloves. El Yaguareté raised his red ones. The Irishman breathed deeply, despite the pain. The Jaguar steadied himself.

DING! DING! DING!

What If: CelticFire Triumphs

CelticFire came out swinging.

He unleashed his fury like the burning sun itself, throwing heavy punches with every ounce of strength he had left. But life would not be that easy, for El Yaguareté danced. A missed hook. A countered jab. A perfectly timed dodge. It seemed CelticFire's body wasn't quite finished taking punishment. His chest flushed red beneath a punishing jab. His battered abdominal muscles rippled and buckled beneath a well placed hook. A devastating uppercut snapped his head backward, briefly introducing the Irishman to several generations of his ancestors. But he kept going, he had to. Fuck, there was no turning back now! Soon, despite the power of youth on his side, El Yaguareté's legs began to betray him. The brutal rounds had taken their toll, and even the Jaguar's remarkable endurance was reaching its limit. His knees wobbled, his footwork faltered, and his once-fluid movements became increasingly labored. CelticFire saw his opportunity. He feinted a jab, the Jaguar reacted. Celtic saw his chance and took it. He smashed a thunderous right cross into El Yaguareté's jaw.

CRAAAACK!

The impact seemed powerful enough to be felt by spectators in the farthest seats. The crowd erupted as the Argentine's head snapped sideways, his knees buckling beneath him. CelticFire surged forward, the fire was about to explode. His black glove thundered into El Yaguareté's liver, folding the younger fighter sideways with a strangled gasp. Before the Jaguar could recover, CelticFire unleashed a monstrous uppercut that would have made the Tuatha Dé Danann themselves proud.

CRACK!

El Yaguareté staggered backward, desperately trying to regain his balance. But this time, there would be no respite. No opportunity to recover. No safety behind his battered guard.CelticFire pressed his advantage with relentless determination, hammering powerful hooks into the Argentine's bruised midsection. Each punch drove the younger man backward, his exhausted abdominal muscles struggling to withstand the punishment. Another devastating body shot doubled El Yaguareté over, his stomach lurching as he fought desperately against the urge to vomit.A left hook snapped the Jaguar's head sideways. A right cross sent it whipping in the opposite direction. Another punishing uppercut rocked him backward, his vision blurring as the arena lights dissolved into a dizzying haze. El Yaguareté tried to raise his gloves. He did... He tried to steady his legs. He tried to summon one final counterattack. But his battered body had nothing left to give. His knees buckled. His gloves fell... and the mighty Jaguar crumpled to the canvas.

DOWN!

The referee rushed forward, directing CelticFire to a neutral corner before beginning the count.

"ONE!"

El Yaguareté lay motionless for a moment, his chest rising and falling beneath the arena lights.

"THREE!"

His eyes fluttered.

"FIVE!"

One glove shifted against the blood-speckled canvas.

"SEVEN!"

He tried to move, but his exhausted limbs refused to cooperate.

"NINE!"

The Jaguar made one final, desperate attempt to rise.... but it was too late.

"TEN! YOU'RE OUT!"

The arena exploded, it was finally over. CelticFire had won. The Irishman stood frozen for a moment, scarcely able to comprehend what had happened. His entire body throbbed with pain, his lungs burned, and blood trickled from his battered mouth. Then his legs finally gave way. He dropped to his knees, raising both trembling arms toward the heavens. Victory. Sweet, glorious, hard fucking earned victory. It tasted of blood, sweat, and triumph. His ribs would ache for weeks. His bruises would take their sweet time fading, and his face would undoubtedly look like something dragged backward through a meat grinder. But it had been worth every fucking second. Every punch. Every fucking knockdown. Every moment spent wondering whether his body could endure another blow. And somewhere beneath the pain and exhaustion, CelticFire found himself smiling. Because this fight?

This had been the most fun he'd had in a very, very long time.

What If: El Yaguareté Conquers

The Jaguar came out stalking.

Across the ring, CelticFire surged forward with the fury of a madman, either drunk on his own power or having finally abandoned whatever remained of his sanity. Perhaps a little of both. The Irishman was a force of nature, a roaring inferno wrapped in bruised flesh and bloodstained muscle. His punches came with terrifying intensity, each one thrown with enough force to shatter the resolve of a lesser fighter. There was no hesitation. No remorse. No thought beyond driving his opponent into the canvas. And for a few glorious seconds, it seemed he might succeed.

CRACK!

A heavy left hook snapped El Yaguareté's head sideways.

CRACK!

A right cross sent it whipping back in the opposite direction. The Jaguar stumbled, his vision exploding into a dizzying constellation of lights.CelticFire stepped forward and unleashed another brutal combination, battering the Argentine's already swollen face with fists that seemed determined to knock him straight into the astral realm. For one fleeting moment, El Yaguareté could have sworn he was exchanging pleasantries with the ancient Jaguar Gods. They appeared rather disappointed with his performance. But then came the mistake. The big one...  A tiny, almost insignificant opening. And it would change everything. CelticFire planted his feet and unleashed a wild uppercut, pouring every remaining ounce of strength into a punch that might have ended the fight on the spot. But El Yaguareté saw it coming. The Jaguar twisted sideways, allowing the Irishman's black glove to tear through empty air. CelticFire's momentum carried him forward. His guard dropped. His chin was exposed. And the Argentine struck.

CRAAAAACK!

A devastating left uppercut exploded beneath CelticFire's jaw. The Irishman's head snapped violently backward, his thick beard lifting toward the arena lights as a spray of blood and saliva escaped his battered mouth. His eyes widened. For an instant, the entire world disappeared behind a brilliant flash of white. El Yaguareté didn't hesitate. He stepped forward and drove a straight right directly into CelticFire's face.

THWACK!

The impact sent the enormous Irishman stumbling backward into the ropes. They stretched beneath his weight, briefly holding him upright as his legs struggled to remember how to function. Blood trickled from his nose and split lips, running through his beard before dripping onto his bruised chest. His mouthguard remained clenched between his teeth, but it could do nothing to stop the crimson evidence of the punishment he had endured. CelticFire tried to raise his gloves, tried to steady himself, and tried to summon one final burst of that legendary Irish fury.

But El Yaguareté was already coming.

The Jaguar had found his wounded prey, and now he intended to finish the hunt.

Left.

Right.

Body.

Head.

THUD! CRACK! THUD!

Leather struck flesh with merciless furry. CelticFire was drowning beneath the assault, his exhausted defenses struggling to keep pace with the younger man's renewed ferocity. A left hook slammed into his ribs. His torso twisted against the impact.A right struck his chest, forcing another desperate breath from his lungs. Then came a crushing body shot.

THOOOM!

The glove buried itself against CelticFire's battered abdomen. His once powerful abdominal muscles contracted violently, rippling beneath the impact before yielding to the force of the blow.

"HUUURGH!"

A strangled gasp escaped the Irishman's throat. Sweat exploded from his body, scattering beneath the brilliant arena lights like water thrown from a bucket. El Yaguareté stepped closer, another hook struck the ribs.

THUD!

CelticFire's face twisted in pain. Another punch hammered into his stomach.

THUMP!

He folded forward, his massive shoulders hunching as his exhausted body desperately attempted to protect itself. His muscles trembled, his lungs burned. Every breath felt like dragging air through broken glass. He had endured so many rounds of punishment. Ten round? Eleven rounds? So many hooks, jabs, uppercuts, and body blows. So much blood, sweat, fury, and sheer fucking stubbornness. But now? At last? Celtic body was surrendering. El Yaguareté watched the Irishman struggle to straighten. For one terrible moment, their eyes met. There was no hatred in the Argentine's expression, only one of exhaustion and determination. CelticFire attempted one final, desperate right hook.

It missed.

The Jaguar stepped inside, and delivered the final punch.

CRAAAAAACK!

A clean, devastating uppercut erupted beneath CelticFire's chin. His head snapped backward as his arms fell limp. For a heartbeat, Celtic remained upright, his enormous frame seemingly suspended beneath the arena lights. A moment more.... then.... then his knees buckled. His body swayed. And CelticFire collapsed like a mighty oak finally brought down by the storm.

THUD!

The Irishman struck the canvas hard, coming to rest amid a scattered mixture of his own sweat and blood. His gloves lay motionless at his sides. His chest rose and fell with exhausted breaths. But the fight had finally left him.

DOWN!

The arena erupted. The referee rushed forward, sending El Yaguareté to a neutral corner before beginning the count.

"ONE!"

CelticFire remained on his back.

"TWO!"

His eyelids fluttered.

"THREE!"

Somewhere beyond the ringing in his ears, he could hear the distant roar of thousands of spectators.

"FOUR!"

His fingers shifted within his gloves.

"FIVE!"

He attempted to lift his head.

"SIX!"

Celtic rolled slightly onto his side, his battered body protesting even that smallest movement.

"SEVEN!"

He planted a glove against the canvas.Maybe? For one glorious, stubborn moment, it seemed CelticFire might rise again.

"EIGHT!"

His arm trembled, his strength failed.

"NINE!"

He tried once more, but there was simply nothing left. It was done.

"TEN! YOU'RE OUT!"

The referee waved both arms. The crowd exploded into a deafening roar. El Yaguareté stood frozen in the neutral corner, his swollen eyes fixed upon the fallen Irishman. For a moment, he seemed unable to comprehend what had happened. Then his knees gave way. He dropped to the canvas, throwing his bloodied head backward as a triumphant roar erupted from his throat. He had done it. He had survived the hurricane. He had endured the fire. He had faced CelticFire at his absolute fiercest and emerged  victorious. The Jaguar had hunted his prey.

And the Jaguar had won.

His body was a wreck. His ribs ached. His abdomen throbbed. His face was swollen, bruised, and bloodied beyond anything resembling its original appearance. He could barely breathe without wincing. He would spend the next several weeks discovering bruises in places he hadn't even realized CelticFire had punched. But none of that mattered. As his corner rushed into the ring, El Yaguareté looked toward the fallen Irishman. CelticFire was already receiving attention from the ringside medical team. And when the battered Irishman finally opened his eyes and realized what had happened, he managed the smallest, most exhausted smile.

El Yaguareté laughed. Somehow, against all expectations, he had emerged the victor.

Even better?

He had just had the absolute time of his fucking life.

Some time later...

The fight was over. The crowd had witnessed eleven rounds of absolute carnage. Two men had beaten each other bloody beneath the merciless Las Vegas lights, exchanging enough punches to make even the most hardened boxing veterans wince. The sports commentators had called it a war. The ringside doctors had called it concerning. The trainers had called it the most stressful fucking night of their careers. And the two men responsible? They were laughing their asses off. Not quietly, either. Not the polite, exhausted chuckles of athletes trying to appear gracious before the cameras. Oh hell no. They were back up, and having actual, full body, utterly ridiculous laughing.

...And the world didn't quite know what to make of it.

Ring side, journalists filled every available chair. Camera operators crowded any and all space. Microphones stood ready, and a dozen television networks were broadcasting the proceedings live. Everyone expected tension, perhaps a few sharp remarks? Maybe some accusations, bruised egos, or promises of revenge. Oh definitely that. After all, these two men had spent eleven rounds trying to knock each other's heads into the cheap seats. Surely there had to be some lingering hostility.

When the cameras turned on, the two were still as they were. CelticFire and El Yaguareté entered together. Their handlers exchanged exhausted looks. Somewhere behind the cameras, one of the trainers quietly muttered something about needing a stronger drink. Then sixteen more.  CelticFire's face was swollen, his beard still marked with traces of dried blood. One eye sported an impressive purple bruise, while medical strips protected a cut above his eyebrow. His broad chest and exposed arms bore an assortment of red and purple marks. El Yaguareté looked equally battered. His left eye was swollen, his nose tender, and his split lip had required attention. Bruises covered his shoulders and chest, while a thick towel rested across his neck. Both men had been examined and cleared to attend the interview, though their medical teams had made it abundantly clear that rest was not optional. Neither looked particularly interested in discussing that. Only one thing mattered....

They had the time of their lives.
